I understand why Republicans don’t want the millionaires and billionaires of the top 1% to contribute more, however, I don’t understand why their is a greater outcry from the 1% to sacrifice a little more.
One answer could be greed and indifference to the plight of countless working families. Some could just simply say it’s not fair to ask them to share more. I would say why not?
I keep hearing that asking the the top income earners to pay more on capital gains, a 0.5% surcharge to fund jobs, a 1% transaction tax on their galavanting through the markets and ventures with our pensions is just wrong. It is class warfare, it is redistribution of the wealth, it is un-American socialistic hogwash. However, their are the 99% on the streets, in the parks, at the capitols of this great nation that would say that those who won’t make these sacrifices are un-American.
These job creator, god do I hate that term. The phoniness of the neo-con lexicon is just obscene. It goes even further with the claim we have to broaden the tax base. In other words force those who can’t pay to pay more, so those who can pay can can displace the burden down; or one might say trickle it down. Wall Street isn’t suffering, the executives aren’t forgoing massive bonuses, private sector jobs have grown for 20 straight months while Republican legislatures cut hundred of thousands of public sector jobs since taking power.
According to a report I heard driving to work today was that wall street is showing more profits in three years of President Obama, then eight of their best friend George W Bush. How is this possible, in a time of so called job and profit killing regulations and taxes. Who is lying?, why are they telling the middle and working class to go pretty much go to hell when profits are that good. With this climate we even have Speaker. Boehner slapping Americans in the face demanding less regulations, further tax cuts. Will this insanity ever end. When will they stop blaming the EPA for emission ratings, what they claim to be phony science for global warming. How do these regulations cripple the 3% of Small Businesses showing over $1 million is profits.
As far as creating jobs, fixing our infrastructure, putting our teachers, firefighters, police officers back to work why wouldn’t the 1% want to contribute. Do they not drive on these roads and over the bridges. Do they not have fires that need to be put out and property needed to be protected. Don’t their children and those children of the families who jobs they so call create need education. In a free society, education is the most important tool to succeed.
However, Conservatives say their is a free market solution to all these problems. Let’s shift the tax money from public schools that offer teachers livable wages to private and religious based schools. I wonder if they would shout the same tune if taxpayer money was going to madrases. We can always have private for profit corporations. Yeah, what we need is private police forces and fire fighters going to the lowest bidder, that option makes a move to Toronto seem better every day. Do these people whose ideology falls to the right really think that the bridges and roads maintain themselves, our that we can simply allow private corporations to take over our everyday lives. Do we provide services anymore to the people, or is everything for-profit?. When you actually take the time to dissect a conservatives argument the humor you find is priceless.
This whole job, taxes discussion makes for good ratings and political theatre, yet, does little to help assuage middle class and working class Americans confidence. We already know they battle in Washington is lost. The Republicans have won the battle, however, we can’t give them the war. They hijacked our churches, government and culture. Citizens United for greed, American for the Prosperity of a few, the Club for Growth of inequality know that no matter what polls say, or people want, the wedge has been driven. The investment they made in confiscating our government from the people has paid off exponentially. One party is bought off, one half of the party that claims to stand for the people has been quietly bought off and the small portion fighting for us suffer the sisyphean fight for the workers of our country. When greed runs rampant and legislature are indifferent how will the people succeed.
